Located far enough from town to avoid the bustle, but close enough to walk it every day. We loved San Miguel so much that we started looking at Real Estate.”

San Miguel Getaway

I had the pleasure of spending a week at Villa Mariposa in San Miguel de Allende during the month of March. San Miguel lived up to it's billing as the "Number One City in the World" by Conde Nast Traveler and Villa Mariposa proved to be a wonderful base to explore the City. Four of us shared this large and extremely colorful residence and found it to be a comfortable place to return following a day of exploration, picture taking, and touring. The Villa is located at the top of the town and the walk to and from the central plaza is fairly rigorous and not for the faint of heart. We enjoyed the walking each day figuring it allowed us to eat more of the great food prepared by Mariposa's chef Chayo. For those not interested in climbing up and down cobblestone streets, taxis are cheap and plentiful. There are multiple patios and seating areas inside and outside in the Villa and the bedrooms were large and quite comfortable. In every nook and cranny are colorful potted plants, plates, artwork, tile etc. reflecting the multiple colors and textures of San Miguel. We all found the Villa to be a very cool and funky place to spend a week. ”

Villa Mariposa---a Jewel in Mexico

Our group of 8 was accommodated easily at Villa Mariposa. Each roomy bedroom has an accompanying bathroom, all decorated in traditional Mexican style. The entire house is surrounded by patios and gardens, carefully tended by the on-site gardener, and decorated with hand-painted mural tiles. We especially loved the meals cooked by Chayo and her helpful attention to our questions and needs. This house was a good part of the reason we loved San Miguel and plan to return! ”

beautiful large traditional villa, lovely staff. the only thing that could have been improved was the weather...it was a little cool for january. most of the time in the days the sun heated up the multiple patios and retreats near the pool. and san miguel itself is like a little european timecapsule, without the expense or the jetlag. this would be a great family reunion place, with so many bedrooms. and the great cook... thanks for sharing, dennis. we loved it. mimi cipollone”

Fantastic place to stay

We had a wonderful time at Villa Mariposa. The very best part of the trip were the people--Alex, Chayo and Lolita. This house is spotless and the meals were so thoughtfully prepared and delicious. After our first meal there, we pretty much stopped eating at restaurants. Alex even taught us how to make homemade pasta one night. Every possible need was taken care of. This home would be so great for large groups. The home has a lot of private bedrooms and baths tucked away. The centro part of San Miguel is an easy walk, but the pool area is so quiet and relaxing that we had a difficult time pulling away. We highly recommend Villa Mariposa.”
