Cortona, Italy Borgo di Vagli - One Bedroom Residence

What a magical hamlet in the heart of Italy! The hamlet homes were authentic, cozy and nicely adorned. I would caution anyone who is over 5'10" tall - you will have to bend over to enter the houses and need to stay in the center of the arched entrance from the soggiorno to the cucina. People were shorter when these homes were built and the architect did a wonderful job preserving the original structures. The staff is most accommodating and, like all Italians, congenial and inviting. What a wonderful place to spend a week.”

Rustic, remote - best visit is outside high summer

We had a nice week at Borgo di Vagli - the residence was small and rustic but very comfortable, the views to the hills and castle excellent, the on-site restaurant is great (don't miss pizza night!), the staff very helpful and friendly, and it feels special to be there. Every evening we'd be eagerly watching to see if the wild boars would show (which they did most days). Wifi inside the residence is good enough for regular work video calls but mobile reception is very patchy, and only found in some parts of the grounds. If you plan to explore Tuscany, then be aware that the location (on the southern border of Tuscany) and remoteness of the hamlet means that getting in and out by car takes quite some time - this is not an ideal base (though the single-track gravel road is perfectly drivable with a standard car, albeit very dusty). We would also recommend visiting outside of the hot summer months, as there is no airco (fans kept us cool overnight), and the horseflies make the forest walks quite unpleasant in places.”
