Description

Lake Chapala Hacienda

Designed and built by the area's best architect, Gene Fortun, the house was the dream of a noted retired homebuilder from Georgia.

We acquired the house in 2009 and, until now, have never released it to the "rental" market. It is filled with art, oriental rugs, antiques, and fine furniture. The charming town of Ajijic is located at 6,000' elevation (the same as Lake Tahoe) creating one of the most sublime climates on earth. The house has two bedrooms in the main house, with a separate (unattached) two-story casita.

The latter has a bedroom (upstairs) and living room (downstairs)(with sofabed) and full bath/showers both upstairs and downstairs. An elevator delivers guests from the enclosed garage (two cars) to the main floor and to the masters' suite.

There is abundant outdoor living space (where we spend most of our time), including bar/BBQ area, outdoor fireplace, pool, and entertaining area. Views of the Lake from all vantage points. Kitchen, with dining area adjoining the living room (with another fireplace). Den/TV room with adjoining full bath. Office. Gym. Wine cellar.

A full-time staff (housekeeper/cook and gardener/pool man) work 6 days/week. Our management company that supervises the staff and oversees the property also will attend to all guest requests. Security gate with video monitor and remote entry access. Gorgeous gardens with abundant flowers. Five fountains on the property.

Property View

Overlooking Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest lake, our hacienda enjoys the (according to National Geographic) the second best climate in the world. Never hot, never cold, the quaint village of Ajijic is home to about 10,000 US and Canadian ex-pats.

Incredible - it's that special.

We had a magical week in Bob’s hacienda. The photos can’t capture the scale, architectural excellence, majestic setting, or impact of the dynamic art collection. This is a Mexican hacienda of the highest order. Living in this home for a week, I realized it is the most beautiful home I have ever been in. Every time you turn around there is another stunning vignette of architecture, furnishings, art and consumate style to contemplate. No one in our party had ever vacationed in a private home with an art collection this exciting. We spent most of our week relaxing in the home. Sipping sunset cocktails overlooking the pool we were serenaded by birdsong. The setting of each bedroom suite offered the ultimate privacy for our party of 5 adults - all were spread out over the estate and all had panoramic lake views. When we ventured out, we loved our day at Monte Coxala Spa and especially enjoyed eating at Dharma on the Malecon and Savta [breakfast and lunch] on the Zocalo. The owner, Bob, could not have been more welcoming or responsive. Cecilia and Juan meticulously maintain the gardens and interiors. Juan was also able to help us with return transportation to the airport. Highly and unreservedly recommend. You will not forget your stay in this home. ”

Fantastic views and more

Bob is a wonderful host and we are so appreciative of his knowledge and willingness to host. Beautiful views, friendly staff and the wonderful recommended restaurants offered a relaxing week in Ajijic. Thank you!”

Grand time in a lovely hacienda!

Adele, Christopher, and I had the grandest time at your lovely Hacienda. How can I ever thank you for allowing this trade, and at the last minute? As you'll gather, our time together there was simply divine. We all were envious to learn that not only do you have this wonderful holiday home, but others in Puerto Vallarta and Paris -- two of Richard's and my favourite places on earth -- as well. We and I have had enjoyed many great trades in PV, in particular, at La Cima III, where we've spent some of our recent Xmas holidays, and in Paris too. Should you ever decide to trade your properties in PV and Paris, would you please, please let us know? Again, thank you so much for your generosity to us.”
