Discover the small rural, peaceful and beautiful village of Craig, named for its early settler, William Stewart Craig, who in the early 1800's donated the land on which the town was built. Located only a one-hour drive from Omaha, this region offers a look into our Americana past, with deep roots in pioneer history, cultural centers and museums. With abundant natural history and wildlife, this region is prominent leader in conservation education with its' famous Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium with its indoor jungle, rainforest and desert habitats.

Escape within the remote pristine landscape to experience the small village of Craig, with its unique Carson Lodge & Retreat, whose philosophy of local land conservation and wildlife habitat preservation is equally important. A few practices that the owner strives to follow within the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) are decreased erosion, improving water quality in the surrounding lakes and rivers, while increasing wildlife habitat. Their efforts in conservation has notably created the perfect habitat for Chinese ring-neck pheasant, Whitetail deer, Bobcat, Coyote and the occasional Bald Eagles that make this area a hunting conservation-sanctuary. Through their efforts of increasing the population of its regional wildlife, seasonal permits for hunting can be granted to the Carson Retreat which can be passed onto their guests, should they wish to experience dependent on their dates of stay. Venture out along the Niobrara National Scenic River for waterfowl and deer observations, or journey to the Sandhills for antelope and deer. Whether you wish to preserve and take in the natural beauty of the region through photography, hiking and ATV exploration, and/or enjoy ecologically-responsible hunting of pheasant and deer, getaway to Nebraska for a memorable retreat!

Arrive at the Carson Retreat & Lodge surrounded and delight in its wonderful natural setting with its "Ralph Lauren" lifestyle ambiance. Step inside the main lodge and the second building to find skillfully built artisan interior spaces made with hard wood, stone and tiling. Enter into its Great Room that beckons guests to gather and entertain around its stone-laid fireplace hearth, large flat-screen cable TV, plush leather seating and solid wood paneled walls with just the right touches of authentic hunting decor. Enjoy cooking in the open-flow professional fully-equipped kitchen with its island counter and bar stools; enjoy meals and gatherings around the lovely dining room table with its posh cowhide-backed chairs. Between the kitchen and dining area, there is a complete bar ready for all celebrations one could imagine. Set the right mood with Sonos music entertainment that is available throughout the retreat including the outdoor common areas; in addition, guests can enjoy the available WiFi. This is an extraordinary and unique residence, having all the perfect makings for a multi-generational family gatherings and corporate group retreats. For further enjoyment, guests can head upstairs to play cards or games on the loft-game table overlooking down onto the Great Room, convenience the main lodge offers a mudroom to keep all the day's fun-in-the-mud clothing and boots in.

The Lodge property offers eight bedrooms with private en-suite baths; there are five King bedrooms and two Double Bunk bedrooms for guests to choose from. In addition, there is a separate small intimate cabin that offers one Queen bedded room with private bath, a small sitting area and kitchenette. In the Retreat's second building, guests can gather and mingle within its open-flow space that includes a wetbar, small kitchen with fridge, sink, dishwasher, shuffleboard table, pool table, ping-pong table and darts board for fun competitions; this area also offers a half-bath for convenience. In addition, gather and relax as you wish in this wonderful indoor-outdoor section of the retreat, complete with its own picnic table, a large main porch with wonderful seating area, a BBQ grill and a fire pit with ample wooden chairs to enjoy cocktails and story-telling around. This area provides sliding garage doors that open up to the outside, making it a great usable year-round space even when the weather isn't cooperating. For the ultimate relaxation, enjoy the Retreat's salt-water jacuzzi hot-tub on the wooden deck platform, and take in the serenity and view of the lake.

Additional Fees

How are meals conducted at The Retreat Lodge?
Guests must provide their own food and beverages. Private Chef and Professional Catering Services can be provided and quoted as need for group and family needs. If guests would like the Retreat to be pre-stocked, this can be arranged directly with the management team.

Is there a cleaning fee?
There is a $100 main floor fee (there are two), plus an additional $50 per bedroom used. Kim Reed will reach out to you with an invoice following your stay.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are allowed on the property, but are not allowed inside. If damages occur due to pets being brought indoors, these are subject to fees being incurred with the management team.

What recreations are available to guests?
Guests can enjoy fishing, hiking and campfires around the pit, along with the saltwater hot tub and all game-room activities. Skeet Shooting and Hunting can be arranged on-site during your stay. Please coordinate directly with the management team. Skeet Shooting is approximately $85 per 100-round of clay and ammo; Season Hunting is approximately $1000 per person per day. ATV use is limited and must be pre-approved by the owner and management team.

Beautiful

This property is as beautiful as advertised. It was perfect for our family getaway of 10. The host was extremely helpful and accommodating. The kids loved the ATV’s, fishing, s’more’s and petting the horses. Will definitely revisit if given the opportunity. ”
