January 2023Stunning Alpenglow Crested Butte
We loved staying in this remodeled condo and the morning Alpenglows were a sight to behold. The views from the balcony are truly spectacular. We couldn’t travel on our original dates due to severe illness of our matriarch (a skier thru age 82) and the owner generously offered us the only other winter dates she had available. That was very kind and we went in late February when the skiing is even better. We did the ski in/out thing which is very convenient if a bit arduous. I’ll admit I struggled with the 87 steps and it didn’t occur to me ahead of time they would all be exterior steps and uncovered. I think it was partly the altitude because I didn’t have any trouble with them by the third day. The shuttle stop is very close but we never took the shuttle. Crested Butte has a lot of fabulous restaurants and great shopping. It is often referred to as “the last great ski town” and we agree! We only had 3 people as our 4th never made it into Gunnison and we each had our own bathroom and a dedicated “gaming room.” Beware of flying into Gunnison as we had multiple flights in and out that were canceled. The drive back to DIA is gorgeous and it was an easy drive for us. I had been warned the drive could be challenging, but flying into Gunnison just does not always happen due to the cross winds. Montrose airport is another option. We think this condo is a good key value and we’d love to come back!”
