Logtown Estate
Nestled on 11 acres of land bordered by a flourishing pecan orchard, a working corn field, and the Ouachita River, this estate, which was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980, amazes you with its long history and preserved beauty. Once part of an enormous Spanish land grant to Jean Baptiste (Don Juan) Filhiol in 1785, this stunning Greek revival cottage was first built as just two rooms in 1847 and has been enlarged many times.
The cypress lumber, brick chimneys, doors, sashes, and fan windows were all made or worked by hand to perfectly fit the home. Most notable changes were made in the 1880s by the new owner when the style began to reflect a gorgeous Victorian with a "steamboat gothic" flair.
As you enter the home, you will be impressed by the beaded exposed rafters in the parlor and Camellia bedroom that add a distinctive French flair. The new meets old upgrades are luxurious and high-end, allowing you to feel comfortable in the space while appreciating the old American charm.
The gourmet kitchen has been designed to perfection with high-end appliances, a farmhouse sink, and a large island with counter seating for six. The breakfast table seats an additional ten. The formal dining room offers more seating for larger groups or big families staying in the home. Everyone can gather in the family room with a large television to watch your favorite movie or the latest game. The second living space allows the big kids or adults to delight in.
Graciously accommodating 11, you may also use sofas or bring air mattresses to sleep an additional 14 people (Guests' names must be registered with the property manager upon arrival).
Camellia Room: The oldest bedroom in the house has two queen beds and still boasts the original large windows overlooking the garden that contains multiple camellia bushes. This room is connected to the home's front parlor through a half bath and is directly across the hall from the Cypress Suite. According to history provided by the past owners, the ceilings in this room and the parlor were painted Robin's Egg Blue to keep the evil spirits away.
Cypress Suite: This beautifully decorated suite looks out onto the front of the property facing the Ouachita River, where you can appreciate the trees and foliage on the property. This bedroom has one king bed and one twin daybed, making it a perfect master suite for families with little ones. The ensuite was the first bathroom in the home and still has the original stained glass windows. A recent renovation added a custom walk-in shower with multiple shower heads.
Pecan View Suite: This master bedroom was once the original kitchen for the Filhiol family. The view out of the back window looks directly onto the pecan orchard.
The Magnolia Cottage: Named for the four grand Magnolia trees that frame the main house, this original chapel is now an unattached suite with a king bed, custom walk-in shower, and the plantation's original 1880 claw-foot tub. The Magnolia Cottage also includes a small fridge, microwave, and coffee pot.
There is plenty of room for the kids to run and play outside while the adults sit in the rocking chairs and enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Bring your fishing gear, binoculars, books, and other relaxing activities to be entertained.
Time moves so wonderfully slow here at the Logtown Estate, allowing you and your loved ones to truly enjoy each other's company without all the distractions of everyday living.
