Description

This fine home is located in a quiet residential area within easy walking reach of Reykjavik downtown and key tourist attractions.

The house was built in 1939 as a single family home, and as such, it is a substantial property in art deco style in one of the earlier settlements of Reykjavik.

It is ideal for a family stay (best for children aged 4 and above) and it includes all the comforts and amenities of modern life. There are two large bedrooms and one for a smaller child. There is a heated drive and a laundry/utility room in the basement.

Whether summer or winter, the fireplace adds to the cosy atmosphere and the views of the front garden and neighbouring houses are serene and beautiful.

Its a treasured home-away-from-home and one of our favourite family activities are evening swims at Sundhollin, the Reykjavik Pool, located only in a 3 minute walking distance and open until 10pm in the evening. This is wonderful all year-round and in any weather!

The house stands at the edge of Klambratun, a local park that includes children's play areas and houses Kjarvalsstadir, a beautiful art museum with a lovely bistro. Other key tourist attractions such as Perlan (ice cave, nature exhibitions, zip-line and restaurant), Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskirkja Church, boat trips, downtown restaurants and shopping streets, are all within easy walking distance.

We would also always recommend that visitors take the opportunity to visit the surroundings of Reykjavik and take day trips to natural parks such as Thingvellir or explore the sites of the Golden Circle. A trip to one of the amazing lagoons near the city such as Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon is also a must. And if you are into some hiking, there is no need to go far, a hike up the city mountain, Esjan, is well worth the effort!

Perfect week in Reykjavik

We did not know what to expect but the place exceeded all our expectation: the house is very welcoming and was spotlessly clean. The place radiates Nordic hospitality and comfort: down blankets in bedrooms, wool blankets in the living room to cover up while watching the rain outside. Working fire place and hot water radiators made rooms comfortable warm and inviting in any weather. The house is open and bright, every space is smartly and beautifully decorated. The host Anna made our vacation perfect! Anna was so nice letting us check in early morning instead of normal 4pm. We were very tired and jet legged after our overnight trans-Atlantic flight so a mid-day nap was highly appreciated. Anna left us a lot of reading material about Iceland and things to do in Reykjavik, and provided great recommendations for shops and restaurants. The house location is very convenient, and is in walking distance to all Reykjavik attractions. It was very helpful to stay close to downtown as parking in downtown Reykjavik is difficult and very expensive. The house has a designated parking spot, that was also very convenient as we had a rental car for day trips around Iceland. Everything was perfect for a memorable Iceland adventure.”
