April 2023A fabulous stay!
Moturua Island is, as the photos suggest, a very beautiful home in a very special part of the world. We had a delightful week on the island made even more special by the thoughtfulness of the caretakers of the property - Kate and Duncan (and their 2 boys Frank and Ray!). The property is on a private island which is historically and environmentally significant - with nothing on it but two private properties and forests full of native birds - and several pristine secluded beaches. We didn’t do anything much very active other than circumnavigate the island (on foot) which takes a few hours as the path follows a hilly route. However, kayaks and fishing equipment were on offer and the gym in the helicopter hanger (really!) was very well equipped. And… the putting green complete with a sand bunker and various chipping positions (sorry not a golfer!) looked like golf heaven. Also, a golf simulator building/structure was there to use. The logistics of island life do require a bit of planning - Duncan happily transported us to and from the mainland base where we were able to leave cars (securely) for the week. We did a big food shop in Whangarei on the way up from Auckland and had a day on the mainland getting extra supplies and visiting Russell and a lovely lunch in a winery restaurant (Sage). Of course there is also the option of hiring a private chef to cook for you in the professional kitchen in a seperate nearby building on the island. We will have very fond memories of our stay on the Island and if ever the opportunity came up we’d be back in a flash!”
