Description

Cotchford Farm | Ancestral home of Winnie the Pooh

Nestled within the breathtaking landscape of Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, this idyllic 16th-century farmhouse once served as the abode of A.A. Milne – playwright and author of Winnie-The-Pooh – and Brian Jones, a founding member of the Rolling Stones.
Cotchford Farm is the place where the legendary Winnie-the-Pooh stories were written. A.A. Milne bought the house in the beautiful village of Hartfield in 1925 as a country retreat. It was here that he wrote the stories of Winnie-the-Pooh and Christopher Robin. A statue of A.A. Milne's son, Christopher Robin, overlooks the gardens, while Owl can be found nestled within the herbaceous borders. A unique sundial with carved, iconic Pooh characters stands proudly on the lawn. There are also some stunning rhododendrons!

Step into the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh, tread the path that Christopher Robin once traversed and discover the inspirations behind Pooh's delightful adventures. Once the cherished home of A.A. Milne, Cotchford Farm perpetually weaves together the charm and innocence of childhood with the natural beauty that surrounds it. It is a place where imagination comes alive, and the stories of Christopher Robin and his whimsical friends come to life. Explore the literary richness in every corner of this unique property, from Christopher Robin's bedroom to Milne's writing spot and the imaginative gardens.

Cotchford Farm promises a tranquil retreat with all the modern comforts nestled in nature's embrace. This 16th- contrary farmhouse has been lovingly restored, seamlessly melding the past's charm with the present's ease. With six meticulously curated bedrooms, three elegant reception rooms, a cosy family farmhouse kitchen, and enchanting gardens with wildflower meadows, this estate is a sanctuary of tranquillity on the edge of Ashdown Forest. Indulge in a game of tennis, stroll to Pooh Sticks Bridge and the Hundred Acre Wood, or take a dip in the swimming pool.

Magical

Cotchford Farm is a beautiful property with a very rich history. We went for my son’s 8th birthday and it was simply magical. You can walk to the bridge to play Pooh sticks. The garden is buzzing with bees. It’s one of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen. The home is much larger than you’d expect but really cosy also. We had another family stay with us and a we had lots of space. The property manager is easy to get in touch with, it’s a 400 year old home so things do go wrong, but she was responsive and helpful. If you want a slice of heaven in England - this is a great place to visit!”

Amazing and magical property

Even in a rainy April with the pool closed we had an amazing stay at this wonderful property so we can only hope to go back when the sun is shining ! There is so much to do in the area both for adults and kiddies but you can spend days just playing in the garden and surrounding countryside. I should give it a 1 star so no one else takes any further available bookings ! ”
