June 2024Roche Harbor hideaway
This place on San Juan Island is perfect for a relaxing time in the Pacific Northwest. Our time here followed days hiking in Olympic National Park and visits to other towns on Whidbey Island and Port Townsend. And once we arrived and met the owners next door--Cindy and Ed--we felt right at home. The ferry system, once you get the hang of it, opened up day trips to Orcas Island and Lopez Island and to Anacortes. The area is filled with historical places to learn about--including American Camp (on the southern side of San Juan Island) and British Camp, which is just across the water from the cabin and enjoyed from the comfy chairs out on the brick patio. The cabin is actually in Roche Harbor about 8 miles from the ferry terminal and town of Friday Harbor, so a car is definitely needed. Roche Harbor Resort is worth the 10 minute trip to have lunch at the restaurant on the patio. And what a drive through the green rolling landscape with an alpaca farm along the way in and around the most glorious trees. We highly recommend this location.”
