Outstanding oceanfront home in a private plantation on a secluded barrier island in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
This 5 bedroom, 6 bath property is located in Melrose Plantation on the Atlantic Ocean. There are stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, Hilton Head Island and Tybee Island from most rooms and the multiple porches and decks.
There are 3 oceanfront master suites each with its own Jacuzzi tub. There are three oceanfront decks and two fairway decks. There is a screened porch for outdoor dining.
The home has three separate living areas and two laundry rooms. There is a second refrigerator for extra food and a wine cooler with wet bar.
The beach directly behind our home is beautiful and quite private - like few other beaches in the country. The charm of Daufuskie Island is unique, inviting, warm and very friendly. "Southern Charm" is alive and well here on Daufuskie.
Come experience a tranquil, relaxing stay in our lovely home on the beach. Bring your swimsuit, golf clubs, tennis racquets and be prepared to relax.
**The Melrose resort has transferred ownership and a few things are still being worked out. At the moment the golf course is closed, the Beach Club Restaurant and the stables are open, and the pool is expected to open on a seasonal basis.
There has been erosion of the seawall in front of the home due to Atlantic storms so the house is now directly located on the beach which is tidal.
At times the water will come up to the ocean level slab. The first floor of the house is located about 18 feet above the ground on pilings so this does not effect the home itself.

My family and I had an amazing stay in Daufuskie island. We truly unplugged and relaxed. The house is wonderful. Clean and has everything you need. The management company was wonderful and helped with all the detailed getting on the island and set up transportation from the ferry to the house. You need to rent a golf cart to get around if you want to explore. We had one for the week and we felt it was needed. We had an amazing time and we will be back. ”

The house we stayed in was beautiful and well appointed. Unfortunately, the air conditioning on the first level was not working properly and the internet access what challenging, forcing us to use our personal hotspots and not rely on the internet, despite efforts to reboot. The biggest issue was the lack of transparency or at the very least, not informing us that there was no beach and no pool at this house. Due to damage from a 4 year ago hurricane, the high tide came in UNDER the house, the ground level was washed away and is non-existent, and there was nowhere around the house to find beach, even as this photo and description does not clarify. This was a big deal to us and we were disappointed. The island is an oasis of nature and beauty. The devastation remaining from the hurricane was disappointing. ”

We had a five star experience on Daufuskie Island. The house and view were spectacular. With three stories, we had plenty of room to relax. Please note that there a few problems with torn and stained furniture, as well as the elevator not working, but these did not affect our stay. There is not a great deal of things to do on the island, three restaurants, and a few places to visit. With our electric bikes, we were able to ride all the tree lined roads and trails. It was perfect for bike riding. A bicycle or golf cart (rental) is a must. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation with no crowds, this is the place.”
