Description

San Francisco 1937 William Wuster Home | With Golden Gate Bridge Views

Nestled in the heart of San Francisco, this historic hillside home, designed in 1937 by the renowned UC Berkeley Dean of Architecture, William Wuster, offers a captivating vacation experience. With its three-story structure and enchanting gardens that envelope both the front and back, guests are transported to a bygone era of charm and elegance.

Situated a mere two blocks away from the iconic Fisherman's Wharf, this vacation rental provides visitors with easy access to the bustling waterfront, where they can savor the sights and sounds of the city's maritime heritage. Just a half block away, the new Francisco Park beckons for leisurely strolls and moments of relaxation amidst nature. And only a few blocks away is Ghirardelli Square where visitors enjoy a hot fudge sundae in the Ice Cream/Chocolate Shop restaurant, boutique shopping and visiting the nearby Buena Vista Cafe with its signature Irish Coffee.

For a quintessentially San Franciscan experience, a mere half-block from the Hyde Street Cable Car allows guests to traverse the city's famous hilly terrain with ease. Within a 15-minute leisurely walk, one finds themselves in the heart of North Beach, an area renowned for its dizzying array of world-class restaurants, including the legendary Tony's Pizza (see photos for restaurant recommendations)

Walking the other direction for 10 minutes from the rental is Fort Mason, a lively arts and culture center which hosts performances, events and gallery exhibitions. Fort Mason is home to several restaurants and on Friday nights hosts California's largest evening street food market with DJs and Food Trucks galore. Sunday morning there is a bustling outdoor market with a variety of food to eat on the meadow in Upper Fort Mason or to bring home for a picnic.

The possibilities for adventure are endless, with the option to take a ferry ride to Alcatraz or picturesque Sausalito, or even rent a bicycle to explore these destinations before returning on the ferry. For those who seek the grandeur of Northern California, the Golden Gate Bridge is just a 10-minute drive away, opening the door to a world of wonderful destinations.

For a dose of laughter and entertainment, Cobb's comedy club and Bimbo's 365 are conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from the house, offering a perfect evening out. And don't miss the vibrant Saturday morning Farmer's market and the unique shops at the Ferry Building for a taste of local culture and artisanal products.

Immerse yourself in the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of San Francisco while residing in this enchanting historic home. It's the ideal starting point for a memorable and diverse vacation experience in the City by the Bay.

Amazing & Artistic House

Looking forward to returning again. This house was incredible and so was our very helpful host Wendy. She has put together a great notebook with everything you need to know about the workings of the house as well as restaurant and site seeing recommendations. The house is very well located near Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. We enjoyed the views of the bay every morning over coffee and spent time in the tranquil back garden in the evening. The house is beautifully furnished and full of wonderful art work and glass decor. The house is on 3 floors so be prepared, but the climb is definitely worth it for the views. Outside we truly enjoyed our rides up the “Hillavator” to the front door after a long day of sight seeing.”

Perfection in San Francisco

An incredible house with panoramic views of the bay and Alcatraz. The historic home is beautiful with stunning landscaped gardens at the front and back. A hillevator (aka private cable car) whisks you up and down as needed. The owner was always available as needed and provided very useful info the local area. Very walkable to Fishermans Wharf, Ghirardelli’s Square, North Beach and just minutes from two of the historic cable car routes. Was an amazing stay and would love to come back ”

This home is absolutely MAGICAL!

We couldn't believe it when our wonderful host Wendy told us that this was their first time hosting. She was so organized with ample information before we arrived. (Yes, we used Waymo driverless cars on her advice and loved it!) Everything is so put together and easy to settle in. The panoramic views from two different levels of the bay were incredible and a great way to enjoy our morning coffee... Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf straight ahead, the Golden Gate Bridge off to the left, and the city and Oakland Bridge off to the right. The gardens, fountains and courtyard were way more than "relaxing" can describe. Also, you can't beat the location (Russian Hill I think) with the worlds most crooked street just two blocks away, four blocks from Fishermans Wharf, cable cars a block away, etc etc etc. Thank you Wendy, we are definitely coming back!!”
