Rocky Retreat Family Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rocky Retreat Villa, the end of October. As the previous person who left a review about the house said, it is a very quiet time of the season, but that was perfect for our family of 7; my husband and I, son and daughter in law and 3 grandkids. And I can't imagine what the island of Mykonos is like during the height of the tourist season, which we heard was crazy. There are the most narrow roads that lead to the villa which is only about 4 miles from the town of Mykonos, but they are like old goat trails that have been paved over with rock fences/walls on each side and barely areas to pull over in case a car is coming towards you. The house was somewhat equipped. There were no dish towels, hot pad holders, sponges, scrub brushes, garbage bags, etc. in the kitchen. The washer and dryer didn't work, maybe that was intentional, as there is such a water shortage on the island. So we did our own wash and only had one set of towels the whole week, but we made do and didn't mind at all. I wish there had been an instruction sheet of things to follow like how to run the stove and the oven, etc. and also something about how to guard against the mosquitoes! The house was equipped with lights in the sockets and other apparatus to zap the mosquitoes, but we needed to know to use them right away because the first night we were stung immediately and were itching and uncomfortable the whole week. There should be have been mention of how steep and dangerous the path is to the beach, for older people, especially. Our grandkids loved it, though.... and the nude beach! The view from the house is spectacular and we loved the serenity and stark beauty of the terrain and sea. Eleftheria, the concierge to the house, was darling and very helpful. ”

Gorgeous Spot

This villa in Mykonos was perfect for 3 couples visiting in October. I think 8 people would be tight if not family members as 2 of the bedrooms share a bath and the upstairs is quite cosy. One bedroom is located in the walk out basement and has a separate entrance and two beds. The location is ideal - just 15 minutes from town and the views are absolutely outstanding. We walked down the steep and rocky path to the beach which would be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. We cooked several evenings in the fully equipped kitchen and used the outdoor charcoal grill. There are 2 fabulous grocery stores nearby. If visiting in October be prepared for the possibility of rain. Internet can be spotty on the island in poor weather. Bring bug spray to sit outdoors, keep the doors closed and use the infrared contraptions in the bedrooms. Most beach clubs close around Oct. 11 but it's a wonderful time to avoid the crowds. The house manager was fantastic and suggested restaurants that the locals frequent - every one of them was incredible. We particularly enjoyed Captains - Food for Sharing (Greek) and D'angelo (Italian). You may not need a full week on Mykonos - we thought 4-5 days was perfect. Highly recommend a few nights in Athens as well. ”

Wonderful Mykonos Villa

Our stay in the Rocky Retreat villa in Mykonos was excellent. The villa is well kept and immaculate. The views from almost every room were nothing short of spectacular. It’s reasonably close to a wonderful market with everything you could want. The rooms are not large by US standards but more than adequate. The beds and linens very comfortable. Elsa, the property manager is a dream to deal with. She is very helpful and available. We would strongly recommend Rocky Retreat villa and look forward to another visit. Our only recommendation is to better understand just how much Mykonos shuts down at the end of the tourist season. Most beach bars and clubs close early to mid October and the island generally empties. We had a great time anyway but it’s definitely something to strongly consider. ”
